Abstract - The team is actually working in Visoko’s area, a city of the central Bosnia I Herzegovina, approximately 30 km far from Sarajevo. The research aims to locate, to list and to broadcast the stećak, burial-ritual objects about the medieval era, as a requirement for to conserve and re-design in an innovative way the urban shape and the natural landscape. The survey and the graphic description of the stećak will introduce to a dynamic data processing archives, that is very helpful for to understand the history of the place, the typological and morphological frame of the settlement and itslandscape, the connections between content and form.
At the same time, the research will focus on similar stone handmade discovered in the Nord-West Sardinia, especially on the Tomba della scacchiera, a Neolithic burial-ritual sites at the Necropolis of Sa Pala Larga. On account of the shape and decorations on them, it could be possible to find out new information about the ancient European and local history.

Preliminary Report December 2010 - Excavation’s Diary

I made this report in order to show what I've found when I arrived in Visoko and what we have done during the period from 3th of December until 16 of December 2010.
When I arrived in Visoko they have just discovered the new empty tunnels and they have stopped the work in order to wait for me.
For that reason I had the opportunity to make a scientific documentation
from the beginning.
We are going on with two different excavations: one in the end of the tunnel and one in a new tunnel on the right, near the entrance. First of all I want to present the new empty tunnels and the new wonderful structures we have found inside them.

This discovery is very important because we are in front of the first empty space inside Ravne Tunnels and we have the opportunity to see the original shape of the structure.
Of course we are trying to keep the original shape everywhere but, for safety reasons, sometimes is necessary to enlarge the tunnels.
From the hole you can see in the first picture we can catch up the two new tunnels: one goes in the south-west direction and one follows the southeast.

Ravne Labyrinth
It’s impossible to go inside these new tunnels with instruments because the bottom is covered by water but, in February, I will investigate the areas with the Italian speleologist Marco Marantonio. We’ll prepare a map of the new tunnels and we’ll be able to obtain draws for the new structures.
I’ve decided to excavate the tunnel that fallows the south-west direction cause, inside this empty space, we can find the biggest structures inside Ravne Tunnels.
Maybe, in the future, we’ll go on with the investigation of the south-east tunnels, too.

That's the first drywall we can find on the right side of the tunnel. As you can see it's perfect, 90° with the floor and, as usual inside Ravne Tunnels, behind this drywall there can be another tunnel.
We can notice that this drywall is different from all the other drywalls we’ve met before: it seems that every time we go deeper inside the tunnels, structures become more precise and well organized.
Proceeding in this direction we can find other drywalls but, this time, these structures don’t seem to hide other tunnels but they can be considered like a support for the “vault”. I hope that more researches will clarify the situation.








As you can see from these pictures the structures are totally different from all the other drywalls we have discovered before. Behind these drywalls I don't think we'll find other tunnels' cause they seem to be something to
support the ceiling of the tunnels, as I’ve written before.
These new structures are made by stones and, again, they are 90° with the floor. Here we can find big rectangular blocks used to reinforce the walls.
Because of the water it’s impossible to go deeper but me and Marco Marantonio will do that during the first days of February, in order to understand how the tunnel goes on.
I took some pictures inside the south-west tunnel, too. Here we can find other common drywalls but, the most interesting thing, is what we can find in a sand layer: there are two different kind of scratches.
I don't know who or what made these scratches but my interest was to document this phenomenon.




After that I want to speak about the new tunnel on the right, near the entrance, where we started to remove the soil in order to understand the entire structure of the tunnels. We are working with the architect Lucia Krasovec Lucas (Polytechnic University of Milan – Italy) and she’s studying the organization of the area to try to capture the “logic” behind the original project.


These pictures are interesting in order to show the differences between the soil used to close the tunnels and the conglomerate.
As usual in Ravne site, we discovered four new tunnels with two new drywalls, as you can see in the pictures.

The one on the left is already covered by the soil because I don't want to follow this direction, now, and I don't want to take the risk to ruin the structure.
In front of the drywall on the right we have found a big stone, set down on the floor and, later, we've discovered another stone and a third one. All these stones are in line and, the last one, seems to go under the drywall.




To protect the structures I've decided to go on with the excavation inanother tunnel near the drywall. My purpose is to catch up the “stones line” from behind. In February I will give a name to all the tunnels in Ravne site and it will be simple to speak about them cause I will be able to give precise references and we’ll create a complete map.




In this tunnel (as you can see in these pictures) we have discovered two big stones but the interesting thing is that, near the one on the right, we've discovered fire's marks!
It means that someone was there and the analysis on the organic materials we have token will tell us when. We were waiting for these marks because one of the questions about Ravne tunnels is how they could light the entire area.
That’s only the beginning but, during the winter, we’ll go on with excavations inside Ravne Tunnels and we’ll be able to publish a scientific report about the site.

We recorded the “voice” of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun (Visoćica hill)

Abstract – The objective of our research included the audio gamma recording of the ultrasound vibrations coming out of the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun (Visoćica hill) and pointing towards outer sky as already detected by other researchers coming before us. For this experiment we used a compounder in order to turn ultrasound vibrations into audible sounds. Results were astounding, but we will carry out the experiment again during our next expedition at the end of February, in order to verify if results are scientifically reliable and can be repeated by means of a very rigid protocol for each recording. The objective of our research included the audio gamma recording of the ultrasound vibration coming out of the Sun Pyramid and pointing towards outer sky as already detected by other researchers coming before us. The scientific expedition left Trieste on 23 January and included only three researchers: Lucia Krasovec Lucas, architect, expert of ancient structures, Valeria Hocza, scientific assistant and Paolo Debertolis, medical anthropologist.
The research was carried out in two days from 24 to 25 January 2011.
Unfortunately on the first day a snowstorm deposited on our path more than a metre of snow
We immediately realized we could not get to the plateau west of the Sun Pyramid by car, despite the four-wheel drive which could have saved us a good distance to reach the top.
Therefore we had to walk with our boots and gaiters from the foot of the Sun Pyramid, up to the top with the snow still falling.
Despite the difficult climb and the snow storm, the scenery between one snowfall and another was amazing
In order to reach the top we had to walk along the path starting at the bottom of the Sun Pyramid on the most eastern portion of the northern facade; more or less below the first excavating surveys. Afterwards the path rounds the eastern facade with two hairpin bends and then reaches the southern facade, the most ruined part, owing to trenches dug by different armies to approach the Western part at the crossroads with the plateau.
From there, even with the best weather conditions, one must walk to the top, dominated by the medieval fortress destroyed by the Ottomans after conquering Bosnia at the end of the Middle Ages.

Also during the last Balkan war the top of the Pyramid was a strategic place guarded by the Bosnian Army for the whole war until Dayton’s agreements stopped the last war in Bosnia (21 November 1995), after three years of the bloodiest war in Europe since 1945.
The idea of recording ultrasound frequency with a compander was put forward by our instrument expert, eng. Giorgio Battistoni, who built one on purpose for our team, by developing a consolidated project published by a well known Italian Journal on Electronics.
Companders are processors of sound dynamics belonging to a group of electronic devices operating essentially on the level or width of the audio signal variations depending on the range of levels and the spectrum distribution of the compandor itself.
The compander used by our team could turn ultrasound vibration into audible sounds.

Materials and methods
It has often been cleared that an apparently innatural 28KHz ultrasound frequency originates from the Sun Pyramid and Vratnica mound.
Ultrasounds can be briefly described as mechanical waves that we cannot hear even if they reach our ear because their frequency is higher than the maximum frequency detected by human beings. Actually because of its nature, the human ear can convey to the brain – which will then turn them into sounds – only acoustic waves having frequencies between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz, even though not all individuals can detect these degrees. Therefore frequencies lower than 20 Hz and higher than 20.000 Hz cannot be detected by human beings as sounds, whereas many animals can hear frequencies lower than 20 Hz and others higher than 20,000 Hz (or 20 Kilo Hz).
However there are instruments suitable to detect frequencies overcoming our hearing abilities; on the Sun Pyramid actually such instruments recorded sounds with 28,000 Hz frequency.
Yet one thing is reading 28 KHz on a scale or on a display, another thing is listening or analysing that emission confirmed by the instrument.
To achieve this we benefitted from a project published by an Italian Journal, which is well known for the manufacturing of electronic kits not available on the market. The Journal’s name is Nuova Elettronica.
Issue 245 of 2010 published a project that could prove useful for our research, i.e an instrument able to “convert ultrasounds into audible sounds”.
Instrument’s features
This project takes advantage of the ability of a particular microphone, which can be defined more correctly a supersonic sensor. Such sensor detects sounds whose frequency ranges between 10 and approximately 65 KHz.
The circuit diagram is displayed in the following figure.
Briefly one part of the instruments generates a variable frequency thanks to a knob and from that frequency the instruments withdraws the frequency received by the microphone. The result of such withdrawal can be heard into the headphones. For example, let us suppose that the microphone is detecting a 40 kHz-frequency (not audible); if, by rotating the tuning, we produce a 50-kHz frequency we will hear a difference between 50 and 40 kHz, i.e. a 10-KHz sound and it will be an audible frequency.
The signal coming from the sensor is then applied to an amplifier and the tension gain at this stage is approximately 100 times. In order to hear ultrasounds detected by a microphone, they need to be “conveyed” to a lower frequency, in order for them to be heard by a human being. The system we used is similar to that used in several radio receivers, in which the high frequency signal of dozens or hundreds MHz is lowered deeply compared to the incoming signal.
The instrument uses a variable beat-frequency oscillator and a two-entry mixer, used to produce an outgoing signal equal to the difference between the frequencies of the incoming signals, one generated by the instrument and the other coming from the microphone. The first frequency can be tuned with a tuner, as if looking for a radio station.
The “different” signal is then cleared from possibile tension peaks and is conveyed to the second part of the intrument which amplifies it and conveys it to the headphones and/or to a recorder. The volume can be tuned.

The equipment is included in a plastic container and powered by a 9 Volt battery.
The supersonic sensor we used (technical sheet here) has been manufactured by the American company Knowles Acoustics and, despite its very small size, it implies very advanced technology: the equipment contains highly miniaturized mechanic and electronic components integrated in the same silicon substratum.
A further, but important technical detail is the assembly of the small microphone on the focal point of a metal parabola, so as to collect the very straight ultrasound waves at best.
To use the instrument, the parabola with the microphone must aim towards the direction to be examined, and by rotating the tuning potentiometer, ultrasound waves can be detected (if present), heard in the headphones or recorded if a tape or digital recorder is connected.
This is just the beginning of the use of these instruments to ultrasound detected on the top of the Sun Pyramid. One can listen to the released sound, but at a lower tone, since the real sound is so high-pitched we could not imagine; the interesting feature to be searched is a possibile sound modulation. This is what we will try to do during the analyses of the different recordings.
Further equipment
For our measurements of possibile raioactivity we used a GAMMA-SCOUT w/ALERT portable Geiger counter manufactured in Germany with a steel-coated GM tube filled with halogen gas, dosing of alpha, beta and gamma rays, rotating discriminator.
It is a very compact and portable equipment with internal memory which records radiation trends in the different periods and USB port to download measurements on the PC.
To look for magnetic fields, we used a EMF Tester PCE-G28 equipped with 3D external probe and a wide LCD display.
By placing the probe in the interested area this instrument enables the measurement of the magnetic field on the three axis without moving the probe in the space.
The experiment
A preliminary remark must be made. Two scientific teams already used instruments to detect the presence of an ultrasound beam coming from the top of the Sun Pyramid and pointing to the sky.
The first team to notice this ultrasound frequency released at the top of the Sun Pyramid was a group of Croatian researchers, who came in the Bosnian Pyramids’ Valley on 10 and 11 April 2010, led by the physicist Slobodan Mizdrak, from Zagreb. The instruments used in their research were an 823 EMF gaussmeter with internal probe and an 828 EMF gaussmeter with a 3D external probe, gauged in the factory.

For second, again in 2010, dr. Harry Oldfield, a British independent researcher detected the electromagnetic fields above the Sun Pyramid with a special camera using the Polycontrast Interference Photography technique (PIP camera, an evolution of Kirlian’s camera). He was able to reveal the ultrasound radiation accumulated in the pyramid as well as its release through the top.
The main features of the ultrasound frequency were a continuous emission of 28,000 Hz. During the Croatian team’s walk to the top of the Sun Pyramid, instruments did not show ultrasound frequencies on the whole western side. Such frequency appeared surprisingly only at the top of the pyramid and only within a metre’s radium. Outside a 5-meter diameter no sound could be detected by the instruments.
The Zagreb (Croatia) team detected the same emission frequency (28kHz), and even the same sinusoidal shape, also at the centre of the plain placed at the top of Vratnica’s barrow, but also in a few passages on the sides of Ravne’s underground complex.
Therefore we decided to carry out a different survey. We wanted to record the “voice” of the pyramid with the compandor. We also brought a gaussmetre equipped with 3D external probe and a Geiger counter.
We have looked all over the top for the right position of the ultrasound beam emission
Once we reached the top, unfortunately the wind and the snow created many interferences and we had to keep the microphone’s protection cap on at the centre of the compander’s parabola, in order to avoid spurious influences.
We had to explore many places on the flat top of the pyramid before detecting the ultrasound radiation outside the walls of the Medieval citadel at the highest spot of the top, slightly westwards.
Despite the snowstorm and the cold weather we managed to find the origin of the strong ultrasound beam
By using our hearing as a reference, we discovered that the ultrasound beam is much wider compared to what the Croatian team reported after catching it only on their instruments’ displays.
The sound can be heard as a continuous whistle, and tends to fade away by withdrawing from the top progressively and not abruptly.
Unfortunately the recording is disturbed by the wind which can be clearly heard, our voices and the voices of two boys who followed us to the top maybe intrigued by our instruments, and even the continuous barking of the boys’ dog.
Unfortunately, after half an hour of analyses and approximately fifteen minutes of recording we had to interrupt the experiment and go downhill because of the worsening of the very cold weather and dusk coming in rapidly.
First we checked if in the same place there was an anomalous gamma radiation with the Geiger counter or if there were magnetic fields.
The radiation we detected was the natural one, contained into normal ranges recorded all over Bosnia (0,06.-0,22 µSv/h).
Radioactivity levels were perfectly normal where ultrasounds could be detected. During the photo shooting we detected only 0,10 µSv/h on the Geiger counter.
Similarly we looked for magnetic fields with the gaussmeter equipped with a 3D probe. In this case too the analysis was negative: there is no magnetic field on top of the Sun Pyramid.

This last data is very important because the whistle cannot be referred to radio waves originated by radio stations or repeaters placed nearby.
The whistle, turning the 20,000 Hz vibration into an audible sound can be clearly heard even though it is disturbed by other sounds (two small parts of the non-processed original recording, can be downloaded here and here; in the first recording our voices and the dog’s barking overlap the sounds, the second recording has been carried out on a different ultrasound frequency, besides a different emission frequency and the children’s voices overlap; in both recordings the wind blowing can be heard sometimes).
However, having learned from experience, on the next day we wanted to go in other areas around the Sun Pyramid to verify if this vibration could be felt in other places too. For this reason we reached several excavation survey sites on the northern facade and started measurements.
The walk was shorter than the previous day, but not less impracticable, with more than a half –metre snowfall and a short uphill path.
At the Deset Probe (survey number ten), placed in the lower two thirds of the northern facade, almost setting the microphone’s parabola on the ground, we detected a similar ultrasound frequency, i.e. a continuous whistle, yet also coupled to a series of bursts, as if the wind were blowing into the microphone.

However that day, despite the heavy snowfall, the sun shone again and there was no wind. The microphone was well secured to the main instrument, without anomalous contacts.
Such sounds cannot be heard by human ears and therefore can be ascribed to the womb of the Sun Pyramid. We make this recording available, even though our voices overlap them. At a certain point the change in the whisle is due to a small tuning shift. Background noises are not caused by wind nor by clothes or cables.

The idea we came up with is that at Deset Probe level there is some sort of energy leakage present inside the pyramid. But this is only theory, so far not supported by evidence.

Obviously our next mission at the end of February will include the repetition of the experiment in order to verify if results are scientifically reliable and replicable. Moreover we will implement a very strict protocol for all recordings. Therefore, so far present results have to be considered preliminary.
Inside Ravne’s tunnels complex we did not detect the ultrasound frequency coming from the Sun Pyramid
Possibile ultrasound catching inside Ravne’s underground complex was disappointing. No unusual vibration was detected except below the monolyths where there are underground water flows which could generate such vibrations, softened by the megalyths. However this part is still being studied.

Definitive report on our first scouting into the new section of Ravne Labyrinth in December 2010

Abstract - Many scientists know that famous geologists and archeologists doubted the artificial origin of very ancient structures in Visoko Valley and even the presence of an ancient civilization in these areas, particularly with an advanced level of technology. Yet, as excavations proceed, a very ancient, increasingly complex and sophisticated underground maze is emerging. Therefore, after telephone news coming from the Ravne tunnels, we rapidly organized a new joint scientific expedition of the University of Trieste and Politecnico of Milan in collaboration with the Foundation which is managing the excavations. What we discovered this time is even more amazing than previous expeditions so we decided to publish it immediately. But it’s just the beginning. The so-called Ravne tunnels are situated three kilometres from the Sun Pyramid/Visoćica hill, at the basis of which today’s city of Visoko was founded. It was the former capital of the ancient Reign of Bosnia. We have always considered it a structure – and a structure it is, not only tunnels carved into rocks – like conditioning fans to let clean, regenerated, fresh air into the underground structure West of the Sun Pyramid.
The structure is entirely dug in conglomerate and covered by almost 20 metres of earth, its patterns like spirals inside a modern device to regenerate air, articulated in complex ups and downs and created in order to provide a continuous air flow encompassing inside the structure itself.

We know that at a certain moment something must have happened and the civilization who built Ravne’s tunnels or maybe a civilization that came later and was using them, decided to seal the tunnels themselves with earth for a remarkable length, presumably to defend themselves from a danger from outside or to seal up a hazard inside.
In the first case i.e. the danger from outside, this population acted more or less as we would do if a tornado strikes. We would definitely block our homes’ shutters with floorboards and nails to avoid wind and water to penetrate the house thus lifting the deck and destroying the whole building.

In the latter case, i.e. the inside danger – and this our hypothesis – something got out of hand or was the result of a war, therefore the earth used to seal the tunnel avoided outside contamination.

This is how the builders of the Ravne maze acted, as they must have thought that, once the danger was gone, the earth used to seal the tunnels could be easily removed, thus restoring their structure’s consistency without seriously compromising its elaborate functionality.
Yet something unexpected occurred and consistency was never restored. The workers of the Bosnian Foundation of the Sun Pyramid - which has been responsible for the excavations ever since the beginning of the discoveries in the Visoko Valley – took three years to clear this structure only partially by the earth that has been placed thousands of years ago.
Actually 350 metres from the tunnels’main entrances (there are secondary ones as well) just recently we reached a portion that is no longer sealed with earth (December 2010); it had to happen sometimes as this barrier could not fill the structure along its whole length and we had to reach a clear portion.
As I said before, the time finally came and the last barrier fell all of a sudden.

Therefore these new sections of the tunnel seemed almost completely clear except for small collapses because of the lack of earth to support the vaults.

Therefore, strangely enough, sealed sections - once cleared - were better preserved than free sections, whereas unsealed sections in certain areas had piles of earth.
This is the interpretation agreed upon until now. However we think that earth piles did not come from the vaults - which looked undamaged - yet they seemed to have been thrown there on purpose in a first attempt to seal the tunnels. It was an unsuccessful attempt as these piles did not reach the vault. Such a work turned out well towards the exit with a total sealing of the tunnels’ lumen.
Yet so far the real end of these last sections has not yet been found and the huge length seems to forecast just as much surface to be explored, in search of the remains of Visoko’s Civilization.

From an archaeological point of view this discovery is extremely important because we can analyse the original structures of the tunnels.
After a few brief explorative incursions in the newly discovered sections, we decided to carry out a deeper and more serious analysis of the ancient structure of the galleries we just discovered.
Therefore this paper is the preliminary journal of such research that really enthralled us and also implied a certain amount of danger. Yet, walking on the grounds that none had stepped upon in thousands of years evoked the forbidden fascination of opening and entering Pandora’s box.
Yes, opening Pandora’s box, and this sentences summarizes our experience at best. Nobody knows what could come out of the box given to Pandora by Jupiter. Was it for us like the first time Pandora opposed Jupiter’s orders and opened the Box, thus letting all evils of mankind out, or the second time when Hope came out of it?
So far we have not been able to understand.
The multidisciplinary scientific team qualified for this study was made up of five individuals namely Amir Suša, chief worker, director of the excavations, Sara Acconci, archaeologist, coordinator and responsible for the excavations on behalf of the Bosnian Foundation of the Sun Pyramid, Paolo Debertolis, medical anthropologist (University of Trieste), Valeria Hocza, scientific assistant (University of Trieste), Lucia Krasovec Lucas (Politechnic of Milan), architect.

According to Krasovec Lucas’ studies, the tunnel’s structure and shape, recall A. Gaudì’s evocative architecture, with particular reference to the Balò and Milà Houses in Barcelona.
The structure’s architecture in some way also recalls Feng Shui theories, i.e. literally wind and water, owing to a certain use of building materials, the monument stones’ positioning and the direction of the tunnels.
Ravne tunnels discovered so far have been built by using parabolid arches and a mixture of particular "concrete" instead of stones or bricks. They can hardly be considered a "natural formation" also because tunnels have been built in consistant series thus clearly forming an underground grid.

This grid, in the pattern hypothized from excavation results, seems to have a circular direction and to be built in consistant series, in which communication among tunnels is never broken, almost suggesting a hive or lung alveoli. In this sense, one spontaneously thinks of Hartmann’s grid in which dry stone walls built on crossroads seem like the Knots of the elecromagnetic grid on the crossings of Hartmann’s grid.
This topic will be discussed further in another scientific paper written by Krasovec Lucas, who is making a structural map of Ravne’s tunnels.

The newly opened section is the access to the whole alveolar system and we decided to start exploring it.
It must be highlighted that the new section has a very low vault and standing is not possible; it is filled with water with a depth ranging from 10-20 cm to 50 cm. One must crawl or walk with bent knees for almost the whole path.
The presence of water did not look intentional, but it seemed to have been caused by a lack of drainage owing to earth clogging up the bottom of the tunnel.
Our intention for the imminent future is to remove the water, in order to go inside new tunnels with all the archaeological instruments necessary to make reliefs of the areas. A preliminary survey (important to obtain a first map of the new tunnels) will be done by Dr. Acconci, with the fundamental contribute of speleologists.
But this time we split into two groups. A support group made up by Hocza and Krasovec Lucas and an exploration and photographic documentation team, namely Susa, Acconci and Debertolis.

The exploration group wore pedal pusher boots who turned out to be insufficient, helmets with lamp, portable lamps and waterproof cameras.
A few days earlier some scuba divers had analyzed part of the path in order to make sure that there were no wells. However they did not produce documentation or carry out scientific analyses. Ours was the first scientific analysis which attempted at unveiling part of the secrets.
It must be said that the whole path is filled with water. There are never dry parts unless in small portions, made of filling earth protruding at the end of the gallery. These areas are a relief as they enable some rest in a dry area. Overcoming them is complicated as they require crawling 60 cm below the vault. This suggested that the most suitable equipment is the wet suit.

From the tunnels opening one must crawl on in order to go past a section with a very low vault, i.e. approximately 120 cm with 20 cm of water and in the end this was the most comfortable position – in a manner of speaking – to go on. Walking with bent knees, almost sitting on one’s heels, is a good position not to get wet but it is extremely tiring after a few dozen metres.
At the entrance of the tunnel, on the right, there was a well structured retainment wall marked by the scuba divers to find their way out. This upset our archaeologist very much as it contaminated the environment that had been closed for thousands of years (besides an empty cigarette pack left in the water a little further on). Yet they can almost be excused since the tunnel is in almost total darkness and they needed an exit mark.

Further on, the tunnel divides into an "Y" shape and the right branch splits into another "Y"-shaped tunnel, according to the already mentioned hive logic.

The left branch (the tunnel that follows the south-east direction) led to a dead end after fifty meters appoximately (crawling), the right branch (the one that follows the south-west direction) led to another tunnel that looked clear, yet we were not able to explore it totally owing to its length and deeper water. However at a certain point this tunnel had walls with very tidy.

After having banged the helmet into the vault, we realized that the concrete here was more fragile than that in the portions sealed with earth. A slight banging into the ceiling caused small collapses.
In the portions with well lined-up walls, the impression was that they were still secondary tunnels, yet this time with no limitation whatsoever.
We observed some interesting phenomena.
We were particularly impressed by the presence of strange, whitish or white-blueish, very concentrated fogs that materialized every once in a while in the tunnel and then suddenly and quickly disappeared or rapidly moved until they went away, probably owing to equally rapid air flows; even though this interpretation seems controversial because they also moved in the opposte direction, often changing their path.

However, if it were gas trapped in the gallery it would have been dispersed when we went through, whereas it remained concentrated and moved around us.
Therefore such phenomenon still remains inexplicable.

This made picture taking almost impossibile as flash lightnings were screened and prevented from shooting a clear image as they stood between us and the subject of our picture.
SBI’s were particularly clear with electronic flash lightning. We are almost surrounded by them here.
These types of fogs spread modestly also in the rest of the already opened tunnels and created funny materialization and dematerialization phenomena that alarmed even the support group who could not believe their own eyes. These phenomena did not take place in the other sections of the tunnel before opening the new section.

Looking at a video shot by our support group during one of these peculiar phenomena could be useful (here: YouTube ).
Yet, you know, an unknown phenomenon is not always alarming. My concern, as a physician, was that they might be toxic fogs originating from the fermentation of organic products, but it did not seem to be their origin. Water on the bottom of the tunnel looked clear and never muddy, except after our passage that moved the sand from the bottom.
The environment had zero entropy and the water had the same temperature as air and the surrounding environment. This system’s temperature was around 12-14° C.

We were able to take a picture of one of them which stood still for almost a minute, however, at least apparently, we have not detected danger within them. With a typically Balkan sense of humour we decided to call them "SBI" (Šau-Bau Identity).
Another curious note is the presence of deep carvings inside a sand layer, part of the wall of the left tunnel.
As you can see in the enclosed images, apparently holes have been carved with a three-thong metal tool on the sandy layer of a wall of the right tunnel which is made of round stones further on. They looked like scratches made by a hand with just three nails or which used just three fingers. The reason being the nonlinear distance between the holes.

In these cases one must not get carried away and be fooled by suggestion.
However the fact is that someone carved that surface in many areas, even attempting at digging a hole in one point, like a convict carves the walls of his cell during a long detention.

This shows that there was a presence in that area and that it intended to leave something behind, nobody knows how long ago. Yet, who knows what tragedy is hidden behind those silent signs. Someone sealed inside the tunnels? So far we did not find their remains.
At the end of this scientific paper we wish to inform that we decided to create a new research group to improve the studies of phenomena and structures. The group is composed of open-minded academic researchers who constantly collaborate with the Foundation carrying out excavations in the Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids. We decided to call it "Super Brain Research Group" with acronym "SBRG" and this is the first paper we publish together.
The photographs taken by the members of the group carry the new website’s logo, just designed for SB Researh Group by architect Krasovec Lucas.

Introduction - After plumbing the depths of Ravne’s tunnels and their connections to a technologically advanced population, we believed we had to evaluate possibile dangers that could be still existing in this structure, and that required its sealing. Has this structure been sealed because there are radioactive and dangerous materials inside? Is there still a danger for workers and for those who are trying to unveil its secrets? Therefore we wanted to start analysing ionizing radiations existing inside this labyrinth. In October 2010 the Veterinary Department of the University of Sarajevo carried out an analysis, but then we did one too in November 2010. Results were not overlapping and they somehow contrasted those obtained by the ones preceding us. Paolo Debertolis, Valeria M. Hocza - 20 november 2010.

Preface
What caused the sealing of Ravne’s tunnels, placed next to the Sun Pyramid? According to some, an external danger. Yet if it were so, why have they been closed along their whole length?
Up to now, thanks to excavations sponsored by the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Foundation, approximately 350 – 400 meters from the entrance towards the Pyramid have been cleared. Side tunnels – which seem to have been sealed with the same method, i.e a dry-stone wall and earth along their length up to the ceiling – have been almost entirely neglected.
Is it not possible that the tunnels have been sealed because of a danger existing much deeper into the structure?

We carried out several readings inside Ravne’s tunnels, next to the Sun Pyramid
If we take into consideration the second hypothesis, one must be careful. Since this civilization might have been technologically advanced, it probably was well aware of radioactivity. Therefore we have to start measuring radioactivity in the tunnels, in order to determine whether there are natural ionizing radiations at such a depth and if there is something abnormal.
Previous measurements
On 6 October 2010 a studying group of the Veterinary Department of the University of Sarajevo, led by prof. Lejla Saracevic, went at Ravne’s tunnels to measure the dose of ionizing radiations existing in the tunnels.
The resulting report, dated 13/10/2010 quoted in the results: “At the entrance of the underground labyrinth of “Ravne” the detected range was 0,12 – 0,13 µSv/h (microSievert /hr) which is within average values normally present in Bosnia-Herzegovina”.
And more: “The values of dose measurements of ionizing radiations existing in the galleries and next to the megalyths, fall within a range of 0,05-0,09 µSv/h (microSievert/hr),which is below the average ionizing radiations normally present in Bosnia-Hercegovina”.
They conclude:
“1) The dose of ionizing radiations existing in “Ravne”’s underground labyrinth is well below average levels of ionizing radiations in Bosnia Hercegovina.
2) The rate of ionizing radiations detected is due to radiations sent out by natural radionuclides contained in the rocks and grounds of the measured area. There is a clear absence of cosmic rays in the measured areas.
3) The ionizing-radiation hazard in the underground tunnel is minor.
The report of the Veterinary Department of the University of Sarajevo
For the measurement of radioactivity two different instruments have been used: an up-to-date Berthold LB-123 contamination monitor, manufactured in Germany (© 2008 BERTHOLD TECHNOLOGIES GmbH & Co. KG) to measure gamma radiations and a very obsolete, though reliable KOMO TM system, manufactured in Russia, to measure beta and gamma radiations together.
Materials and methods
For our measurements we used a GAMMA-SCOUT Geiger counter, w/ALERT model, manufactured in Germany . It had a Goigor-Mullor tube with steel coating filled with halogen gas, alfa, beta and gamma-radiation dosing and rotating radiation discriminator.

The GAMMA-SCOUT Geiger counter . It is a very compact, but also sophisticated instrument.
It is a very compact, portable device with internal memory recording radiation trends and USB port to download measurements on the PC.
Readings were carried out at different spots in the gallery from the entrance up to the last cleared part of the tunnel. Given the device’s rapid recordings, readings have been collected spot-check, by staying on the spot for several minutes in order to collect more precise readings.
Three measuring inspections of Ravne’s tunnels were carried out in two days.
Results
Normally, main radioactive materials present in rocks are Potassium-40, Rubidium-87, and two series of radioactive elements originating from the decay of Uranium-238 and Thorium-232; these are two long-life radionucleotides (very high value of half-life), existing on the Earth from its origins.
Obviously earth radiation levels are different in the different parts of the world, just as concentrations of these materials on the earth crust vary.
In measurements carried out outside of the tunnel’s entrance in order to calibrate the equipment, we detected a natural radioactivity slowly swinging in a range from 0,12 to 0,18 µSv/h (microSievert/hour) which is to be considered a normal range.
The microSievert (µSv) is a multiple of the Sievert (Sv) equal to one millionth of a Sievert.
The Sievert is the measuring unit of the radiation equivalent dose in the International System and it is the measurement of the effects and damages caused by radiations on the body. The Sievert replaced the traditional unit, the rem (1 Sv = 100 rem).
In Heidelberg (Baden-Württemberg, Germany), where the instruments used have been manufactured, natural background radiations fall within a range of 0,10 and 0,20 µSv/h (microSievert/hour).
In Finland the natural background varies from 0,04 to 0,30 µSv/h and the alarm threshold has been set to 0,4 µSv/h. Values above 0,60 µSv/h reveal the presence of a radioactive source.
We wish to recall that a simple chest X-ray exposes us to 1.000 µSv (microSievert) in a single dosage, a CAT to 3-4.000 µSv.

Outside Ravne’s tunnels we registered natural radioactivity ranging between 0,11 and 0,18 µSv/h, depending on the force of the cosmic component reaching the ground. In the picture a maximum measurement of 0,18 µSv/h is being reached.
Once we went deeper into the tunnel for a few metres, natural radioactivity decreased drastically to 0,08 – 0,10 µSv/h because of the lack of cosmic radiations.

After a few metres natural radioactivity decreased drastically because of the lack of cosmic radiations. We were 20 metres below the earth. Measurements showed 0.10 µSv/h
However, going deeper into the tunnels radioactivity levels seemed to rise in different spots without ever exceeding 0,20 µSv/h. Therefore they were safely within non dangerous limits.
We have detected the highest levels in the ramifications of the tunnels that are closer to the Sun Pyramid.

In our third inspection also Dr. Semir Osmanagic (right in the picture) came with us. He could observe personally the strange behaviour of radioactivity in the tunnels that are closer to the Sun Pyramid.
In the different spots in which radioactivity was measured, we noticed quite constantly that it rapidly swung in a range of approximately 5-6 scalar hundredths in a little less than a minute. I.e. the measurement could go from 0,14 to 0,20 µSv/h and vice versa, with increasing swinging as if this radiation were modulated or softened rhythmically by something.
This strange behaviour took place only in few parts of the gallery, close to the Sun Pyramid. It was much less marked in the side tunnels.
Conclusions
Results obtained so far have to be considered preliminary, however we can declare that radioactivity inside the tunnels does not reach dangerous levels.
Only after drawing a complete map of the re-opened tunnels – and we plan to do it as soon as possible - , will we be able to highlight areas with higher levels of radioactivity, although not dangerous.
The strange modulation of background radioactivity was interesting in that it seemed to swing rapidly as if there was something coming from the Sun Pyramid and interfering with radioactivity itself or lessening it.
Despite the absence of cosmic radiations since we were 20-30 metres below the earth, natural radioactivity levels in certain spots that were closer to the Sun Pyramid, was similar to outside levels.
Results obtained so far suggest and require a more careful research into the different forms of energy that can be measured inside the tunnels. They will be the reason for our next expedition to Ravne in December 2010.
